Excellent.
Tobacco Control has decided to skew the UK Department of Health’s already junk consultation on plain packaging by enlisting the help of a survey group and throwing their side of the game open to international players.
So, in an allegedly UK consultation, those against plain packaging can only comment if they are residents of the UK, whereas those who want this nonsensical measure are allowed to poll names (real or fake) from the entire planet.
Oh, we knew the consultation was a sham, we’ve experienced Big Dave’s ‘cast iron promise’ and Little Nick’s ‘tell us which laws you’d like repealed and we’ll ignore you’ website and all the rest of it. Really, there was no need to engage in such blatantly fraudulent practices. No need at all.
Ah, Tobacco Control, you just couldn’t resist, could you? You’re so used to getting your own way in everything without questions being asked or fingers being pointed so why would anyone even notice that your side of the UK consultation was being run by a website in Brazil?
Are there no penalties for undermining a Government consultation in this way? Is it normal for a taxpayer-funded group to be allowed to canvass the world, while the taxpayers they oppose are restricted to the locals? I smell a scandal coming in the wind. A big, big one. One that will head for Tobacco Control and be deflected onto their current patsy.
Andrew Lansley, take careful note. The Dreadful Arnott might well have just ended your career.
Oh, don’t worry, Mr. L. Her career will be fine. She’ll just move on to duping the next sucker who gets your job. What’s that, Mr. L? You still think you’re in charge? Ha ha ha.
You were always just the fall guy, in case it all went wrong.
Let’s not forget, ASH, Lansley, CRUK and all those who have defiled the title of ‘scientist’ in this Puritan cause, that this was not even supposed to be about numbers.
It was meant to be a ‘consultation’, not a poll.
It’s turned out to be something of a shambles, hasn’t it?
I don’t think this will bring the house of cards down on its own, but it’s a damn good kick at the table leg and the best part is, Tobacco Control did the kicking themselves.
I think we need another petition to parliament on the role of ASH,and specifically it’s management,in the corruption and misuse of their “charity” to forward political aims.
I’ve never been much interested in petitioning Parliament because ultimately, they are the ones running the scams we’re all complaining about!
…. and on Radio4 this morning, the BBC (who else) reported that the anti’s are in the pay of the Tobacco Industry. They cannot be oblivious to the critics defending brands let alone free-thinking individuals who do not support the proposed measures; in their eyes all decent must be from the Tobacco Industry. No mention was made of objections from Police, Customs and other interested groups. Certainly not impartial reporting.
You have to wonder why it is always those against laws such as this who are scheming and in the pay of the tobacco industry whereas those who are for are never accused of being in the pay of the anti-smoking movement. Lets not forget that nicotine is just as addictive and sells for a heftier price. Plus 12 year old can buy them.
There was a child recently hospitalised for scoffing a whole pack of nicotine gum. Nobody was arrested for selling it to him.
No chance of impartial reporting from the EUBBC, I’m afraid. We’ll have to go back to the methods of the 1600s. Word of mouth and pamphleteering.
Is it possible to be a non-smoking pro smoker? I think that’s what’s happening to me after reading your numerous blogs.
Have you seen the Daily Mash yet?

Before all this nonsense, there were smokers, antismokers (very few, and still really very few) and the non-smokers. Non-smokers didn’t care whether anyone else smoked and weren’t interested in the wailing doomsayings of the antis.
The Righteous plan was to turn all those ‘neutrals’ into rabid haters like themselves. It started to work, at first, but judging by the change in the prevalent comments on news articles, it’s backfiring in a very big way now.
Let’s just hope they don’t notice until it’s too late.
Longshanker, Leg is quite correct about the past. And there have been and are a number of nonsmokers quite involved in working with F2C and TICAP — not sure about FORCES at the moment. Obviously smokers are the ones most likely to notice antismoking hatred, discrimination, or taxes — just as in the southern US in the 1950s the entrenched white power structure insisted, often quite honestly in their own eyes, that there was NO “coloured problem” in their states and that the whole discrimination thing was just a creation of “busybody Northener white liberals and communists stirrin’ up our happy coloured folks.”
And any Southern whites who happened to support the movement were assumed to have ulterior motives — usually in that “communist” direction — and Joe McCarthy’s successors did their witch hunts to show tenuous connections and funding between desegregationists and “Communist Front Groups” and “fellow travelers” (similar to the “tobacco industry friends and allies” designation used today, and in which, sad to say, you have probably been included Longshanker.

Well, that’s a cheery thought to mull over for the rest of the weekend.

I sent to AVAAZ :
I just signed up to your “plain packs” petition as RumpleStiltskin. No attempt by you at verification. Your organisation is worthless. Worse even, that you allowed it to be hijacked by tobacco control bigots in an attempt globally to sway the results of a UK “consultation” which tobacco control were losing. Shame on you!
Reputations are collapsing all around Tobacco Control, it seems. I wonder how long it will be before those associated with them start to notice?
Plan was to be ahead of the curve on this one.
Posted it on the 7th (cross my heart), after two weeks of digging.

You have to admit, they are getting just a tad predictable
I’ve just unsubbed from the AVAAZ campaign site. Next time they come whinging that they are under attack from the authorities, they can go whistle.
I’ve never heard of them before. They worry about attacks from authorities, then back an authoritarian attack? Good grief.
