Smoking Scot has some interesting badges for your baccy packets, ready-sized for European and UK pack sizes.
Here are the instructions for use.
As for me, I have spent most of tonight dealing with edits for Samuel’s Girl and have to work tomorrow, so best get some sleep now.
Na. O.K….but.
What is with the “Pirate” icon used around the webs. The “Buy your tobacco abroad”….I believe Frank Davies has one on his web site(???).
It’s ours and was taken from my friends who were HM Submariners.
“When the Royal Navy Submarine Service was formed just over 100 years ago, submarines were quite unpopular. The First Sea Lord, Admiral Sir Arthur K. Wilson VC, was one of many vocal opponents of the submarine’s introduction to the Royal Navy. He stated that submarines were “underhand, underwater and damned un-English…no occupation for a gentleman.” He also declared that any submariner captured during a time of war should be ‘hanged as a pirate.’
In September 1914, Lieutenant Commander Max Horton, the Captain of HM Submarine E9, attacked and sank the German light cruiser Hela, the first enemy warship sunk in Word War 1. On returning to harbour he flew from his raised periscope a black flag with the skull and crossbones on it, reportedly having a ‘dig’ at Admiral Wilson.”
Cross Border Shoppers are also looked down upon by the authorities and are branded smugglers. So we took the skull and crossbones, added a cigarette and a reference to alcohol and used it. lt’s our way of having a dig at authorities.
Also a question. I have not seen any reference, but are they saying pipe and rolling tobacco must be in plain packages too?
Yes, l understand it is to be all tobacco products.
Can’t wait, and if I smoked cigarettes or roll-ups, I’d start now! But I smoke cigars. (Not bought in this country; needless to say.)
I smoke a pipe….well….MANY pipes (You never have only one!), and cigars.
ALL my baccy come from Russia. Cigars, pipe, and the occassional cigarette.
Mahorkha as a cigar…??!! DAMN! And in a pipe…Need I say more, for those that have smoked it?
It is like having your lungs ripped out by a brillo pad wrapped around a Walrus dick, and coated in NATO razor wire.
DAMN it is GOOD!!!!
My grandfather smoked Franklin’s Strong, which had much the same effect. I wimped out and took up Franklin’s Mild.
Cigars must be easier to make from homegrown leaves than trying to chop it up for a proper roll-up. I have returned to pipe smoking too, homegrown leaves are far easier to handle that way. I remember being told that it’s far too easy to roll the cigar too tight though. Haven’t made a serious attempt at it yet, I admit.
You could always try a cigarette case like this. And if you wanted to stop them screaming for help to the nearest antismoking gauleiter, one of these.
Watching the heads implode would be most entertaining.
I remember lighters with pack brands on them from a not-very-long time ago. You used to be able to get them in shops that had lit-up Benson and Hedges signs outside.
I have brass petrol lighters embossed with ‘Cutter’s Choice’ and ‘Golden Virginia’ but it’s not quite the same.
We used to make these things years ago as students. Thinks like “smoking makes you cool” and “smokers are better in bed”
My advice to you, carry spares because as soon as you start showing these off people will want them for their own packs. I hate to think how much university printing was hijacked back in the day for pro smoking propaganda.
There was also a pack of stickers on sale to cover the warning labels. Can’t remember where I saw them, it was during my search for a couple of new pipes, a while back.
