Thanks for the phone advice. I had not thought about the spaminator’s reaction to so many phone-related comments. I think I let everyone out now.

It’ll be a while, but I think I’ll go for getting my own phone with a SIM biased to data. I’ll take further advice at Carphone Warehouse before deciding finally.

I’ll let you all know how I get on.

This week I’m on morning shifts and those always mess up my natural sleeping patterns. No decisions this week!

If you want to talk to each other, do it via a VOIP app. Presuming you have a WIFI modem, yours and her phone each connect to your WIFIs (when at home) or to your phone data allowance (when out and about), and the rest of the call is free of charge (except for the bit of data you use while on call, of course).

    Some VOIP apps (such as Skype) use a lot of data to communicate. Some others use far less. This one has just launched and claims much lower data rates than Skype, Viber, etc.:
