My grandfather was wounded in the trenches in Flanders and shipped to a manor house in England where the English duchess took care of the wounded Belgian soldiers.My grandmother fled to Ansterdam because the Netherlands were neutral. She thought her husband was dead until she received a letter from the Red Cross that he was in England.
