Gloom and books

Hi everyone, CstM here. I hope you’re all doing well.
Sorry for the late post, I have been having a bit of a rough time mentally. Probably the lockdown and everything going on in the world.
So I’m just popping in for a quick spell to tell you the book of the month.

This month I’m hoping to read the new Hunger Games book ”The ballad of songbirds and snakes” by Suzanne Collins. I really liked the Hunger Games trilogy, so I’ve been looking forward to this book.

I’m aiming to come back next month with my thoughts on the Hitler book.

  2. Well done for recognising your own problem: that’s a really difficult thing to do but a positive one, too. Perhaps the worst aspect of depession is that it’s so insidious, creeping up when you’re not paying attention. I find one of the most useful memes is “not my circus, not my monkeys”.

    Hoodah thought that Germans had a sense of humour..
    I am only half way through it. I have a busy life.
    As a total aside, are you amazed by the number of Danish/Scandinavian/Norse words that pop up in Scottish dialect and place names?

  5. I am not having a very good time either. But I am not very good at talking about it and don’t really want to. But I do know that nothing is the fault of any one person. Start there and you might get somewhere one day. In the meantime I shall continue to feel sorry for myself.

    • I really hope you are doing better. If you ever need someone to talk to my email is always open. I have loads of pictures of Gloom Dog, although these days it’s mostly of her having her 12 hour nap before bedtime.

    • I’m going to assume that “I can’t get into my Blog” means that you cannot access the WordPress Admin section or “home” via “MySite”.

      Two things that immediately spring to mind are…
      1. Some of the files in your browser cache may have become corrupted. If this is the case, logging out of WordPress then logging back in may remedy the problem.

      Since you are able to comment on other WordPress blogs with your credentials, that means that you should be able to access your WordPress login by visiting any WordPress site, then looking up at the top right, and finding your avatar. Clicking on it should take you to your “https://wordpress.com/me” profile where you can log out/log back in. (or you might even try first to access your blog via the “my blogs” menu item on the left)

      If you cannot get to your admin/home for your blog via an alternate route, I’d suggest trying log out/log in first.

      2. Your web browser itself may need to be updated or maybe repaired. I have no idea what operating system you are using nor what web browser you are using, but if you’ve been prompted by your computer to run updates but you have not run them.

      I doubt #2 is the problem since most software updates these days for things like browsers take place “behind the scenes”, they run updates or maybe even repairs on your software whether you want them to or not, and they also rarely inform you if something has been updated, repaired or whatever.

      I’m leery about going into any troubleshooting beyond that without knowing more because lots of quirks that could create more problems than they solve. But I have just gone to my own WordPress “home” for my blog, and it appears there have been some major changes to the admin panel since last time I visited.

    • I haven’t read his short stories, but The painted veil by him is one of my favourite books. I’ll have to add his short stories to the list. I’ve tried suicide, wouldn’t recommend. It’s not really what it’s cracked up to be.

  17. I don’t know, but apart from the suggestions of books put up by CstM, which are interesting and good (although not really genres I’d like) I think people are reading the wrong kinds of books here.

    In these times of attempted demolition of our culture, we really ought to be reading good and well-researched history books, by proper historians of note, and also historical novels by authors alive in the late 19th century and the early 20th century.

    What does everyone else think?
